Hadith Commentary:
➊
This is the second incident of food becoming abundant during the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwah Khandaq).
Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that he said to his wife Umm Sulaym (radi Allahu anha), "Today I have found the voice of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to be weak. I think hunger has exhausted him. Do you have any food?" She replied, "Yes." So she took out a few loaves of barley bread, then took her scarf, wrapped them in one part of it, and sent them to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Anas (radi Allahu anhu) says that when he took the bread to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), he found him sitting in the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), upon seeing him, said, "Did Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) send you with food?" I replied, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said to his companions, "Get up and go to Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu)."
So the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) came to Abu Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) and said to Umm Sulaym (radi Allahu anha), "Umm Sulaym! Bring whatever you have." Umm Sulaym (radi Allahu anha) brought the bread, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "Break them into pieces." Umm Sulaym (radi Allahu anha) poured ghee (clarified butter) over them.
Then he recited something over the food and said, "Call ten people." When they had eaten and left, he called another ten. In this way, all the people ate to their fill, and they were about eighty (80) in number.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Manaqib, Hadith: 3578)
In one narration, it is mentioned that at the end, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his family ate the food. After that, the leftover food was distributed among the neighbors.
(Sahih Muslim, al-Ashriba, Hadith: 5321 (2040))
According to another narration, the leftover food was gathered by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and he supplicated for blessing upon it, so it became as much as it was before.
(Sahih Muslim, al-Ashriba, Hadith: 5321 (2040))
➋
Once, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) came to the house of Jabir (radi Allahu anhu). As he was about to leave, despite Jabir's (radi Allahu anhu) refusal, his wife requested the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for me and my husband."
He supplicated that Allah bestow goodness and blessings upon her and her husband.
Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) expressed displeasure, so his wife said, "How could it be possible that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) comes to our house and we are deprived of his supplications?"
