Jabir added, "When my father was martyred, I started weeping and uncovering his face. The companions of the Prophet stopped me from doing so but the Prophet did not stop me. Then the Prophet said, '(O Jabir.) don't weep over him, for the angels kept on covering him with their wings till his body was carried away (for burial).

Hadith Commentary:
What can be said about the virtues and merits of the martyrs of the Battle of Uhud!
These are the distinguished sons of Islam who nurtured the tree of Islam with their blood.
Islamic history will remain proud of them until the Day of Judgment.
They were buried two by two in a single grave.
Your martyrs have no need for ritual bath (ghusl); they were buried without shroud or bath so that, on the Day of Resurrection, these beloved ones of Allah may present themselves in the Supreme Court in this very state.
It is true:
"Bana kar dund khush rasme bakhak-o-khoon ghalatidan, Khuda rahmat kunad een ashiqan-e-paak teenet ra."
(May Allah have mercy on these pure-natured lovers who established a beautiful tradition by rolling in dust and blood.)
I feel immense happiness that, in my lifetime, I was granted the opportunity three times to visit the treasure of martyrs and recite the prescribed supplication at their graves.
At each visit, recalling the events of the past, my heart overflowed, and even today, as I write these lines, a flood of tears flows from my eyes.
May Allah the Exalted, on the Day of Judgment, grant these drops the rank of rivers to extinguish the fire of Hell caused by sins.
And that is not difficult for Allah.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The meaning of the noble statement of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is that he has been granted great honor by Allah.
There is no need to weep or grieve over his martyrdom.
➋
Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states:
The apparent wording of the hadith suggests that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not prohibit Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) from weeping.
But in reality, this is not the case, because the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) prohibited Jabir’s (radi Allahu anhu) paternal aunt, Fatimah bint Amr (radi Allahu anha), from weeping.
A hadith in Sahih Muslim supports this.
Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) says that his paternal aunt Fatimah (radi Allahu anha) began to weep, so the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“She should not weep.”
(Sahih Muslim, Fada’il al-Sahabah, Hadith: 6355(2471)
and Fath al-Bari: 7/470)
In fact, this is also explicitly stated in a narration of Sahih al-Bukhari.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Jana’iz, Hadith: 1244)
➌
From this hadith, it is understood that uncovering the face of the deceased is permissible, provided there is some benefit; otherwise, it is contrary to what is preferable, because doing so increases grief and sorrow.
The fact that the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in) prohibited it also indicates that it is contrary to what is preferable, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) not objecting to this prohibition is also evidence that the face of the deceased should not be uncovered without reason.
And Allah knows best.
