Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle (pointing to his broken canine tooth) said, "Allah's Wrath has become severe on the people who harmed His Prophet. Allah's Wrath has become severe on the man who is killed by the Apostle of Allah in Allah's Cause."

Hadith Commentary: ➊ The "rabā‘ī" are the teeth that are on the right and left sides of the two front teeth, and every person has four rabā‘ī teeth. ➋ Along with the lower rabā‘ī tooth on the right side of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), his lower lip was also wounded. In the Battle of Uhud, ‘Utbah bin Abī Waqqās (radi Allahu anhu) struck the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) with a stone, which affected the lower rabā‘ī tooth on the right side. Sa‘d bin Abī Waqqās (radi Allahu anhu) says that he never had such eagerness to kill anyone as he had to kill his real brother ‘Utbah bin Abī Waqqās, because he had wounded the front two teeth of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Ibn 'Abbas reported that he spent a night in the house of his matenial aunt, Maimuna. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) got up at night and performed short ablution (taking water) from the water-skin hanging there. (Giving a description of the ablution Ibn 'Abbas said: It was short and performed with a little water.) I also got up and did the same as the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) had done. I then came (to him) and stood on his left. He then made me go around to his right side. He then observed prayer and went to sleep till he began to snore. Bilal (RA) came to him and informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then went out and observed the dawn prayer without performing ablution. Sufyan said: It was a special (prerogative of the) Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) for it has been conveyed to us that the eyes of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) sleep, but his heart does not sleep.

Hadith Commentary: Vocabulary of the Hadith: Akh-lafani: He turned me from behind so that I would not come in front of you.
Benefits and Issues: In deep sleep, a person’s senses and awareness do not remain intact, and one does not realize if wind has been passed; therefore, such sleep is considered a situation and occasion for the nullification of ablution (wudu), and a person must perform ablution anew. However, since the senses and awareness of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remained intact, his deep sleep was not considered a likely cause (maẓinnah) for the nullification of ablution. And the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, upon awakening from sleep, would perform prayer in the same state without renewing ablution.
