Hadith 4068

Abu Talha (ra) said:I was amongst those who were overtaken by slumber until my sword fell from my hand on several occasions. The sword fell and I picked it up, and it fell again, and I picked it up."

Hadith Commentary:

The onset of drowsiness during battle was a message of mercy and security from Allah, because drowsiness comes to a person who is free from fear; a person afflicted with fear and panic cannot sleep. After such intense sorrows and worries, the Muslims experiencing drowsiness was an unexpected blessing and extraordinary assistance from Allah.

Drowsiness brings both physical and mental tranquility. It removes bodily fatigue and causes sorrows to be suddenly forgotten. However, the hypocrites were very distressed in such circumstances. They would go around saying:
“If we had any say in this matter, we would not have been killed here.”
