Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
➊
Hazrat Talhah bin Ubaydullah (radi Allahu anhu) would shield the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) from the arrows of the polytheists with his own hand.
Because of this, on the day of Uhud, he received more than thirty (30) wounds.
His martyrdom finger and the one next to it became paralyzed.
➋
In one narration, it is mentioned that when Hazrat Talhah’s (radi Allahu anhu) finger was cut off, he uttered “Hiss” (an expression of pain).
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“If you had mentioned Allah’s name and said ‘Bismillah’, the angels would have lifted you up and people would have seen you in that state. Then Allah, the Exalted, repelled the polytheists.”
(Sunan an-Nasa’i, al-Jihad, Hadith: 3151)

Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
1.
This incident also took place during the Battle of Uhud, when the polytheists sought to harm the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), so Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) made his hands a shield for him, that is, he blocked the blows of swords and spears with his hands. For this reason, one of his hands became paralyzed, that is, senseless and immobile. In the Battle of Uhud, Talhah (radi Allahu anhu) received more than seventy wounds on his body. (Fath al-Bari: 7/105)
2.
Among the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in), he was famous by the titles Talhah al-Fayyad, Talhah al-Khayr, and Talhah al-Jud. (Umdat al-Qari: 11/459) Regarding him, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "Whoever wishes to see a martyr walking on the earth should look at Talhah ibn Ubaydullah." (Jami' al-Tirmidhi, al-Manaqib, Hadith: 3739)
3.
His martyrdom occurred in Jumada al-Akhirah, 36 AH, corresponding to 25 November 656 CE, in the Battle of Jamal. At the time of his martyrdom, his age was sixty-four years.
