Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Abu Sa`id bin Malik Al-Khudri returned from a journey and his family offered him some meat of sacrifices offered at `Id ul Adha. On that he said, "I will not eat it before asking (whether it is allowed)." He went to his maternal brother, Qatada bin N i 'man, who was one of the Badr warriors, and asked him about it. Qatada said, "After your departure, an order was issued by the Prophet cancelling the prohibition of eating sacrifices after three days."

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The purpose of mentioning this hadith is to show that Qatadah bin Nu’man radi Allahu anhu was a participant in the Battle of Badr.
➋
His eye was injured by an arrow in a battle, so he placed it on his palm and presented himself before the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and said:
“O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! I love my wife very much. If she sees this, I fear that she may begin to dislike me.”
So the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam placed his blessed hand on his eye at its place and pressed it with his palm.
Its sight became better than the other eye.
Additionally, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also supplicated for Paradise for him.
(Musnad Abi Ya’la: 120/3)
➌
Qatadah bin Nu’man radi Allahu anhu passed away in 23 Hijri.
Umar radi Allahu anhu led his funeral prayer, and Abu Sa’id al-Khudri radi Allahu anhu descended into his grave.
(‘Umdat al-Qari: 47/12)
➍
Due to poverty and hardship, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had prohibited keeping the meat of the sacrifice (qurbani) for more than three days.
When ease came, the prohibition was lifted, but Abu Sa’id al-Khudri radi Allahu anhu was not aware of this; he learned of the new ruling from his brother Qatadah radi Allahu anhu.
And Allah knows best.
