Hadith 3996

حَدَّثَنِي خَلِيفَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " مَاتَ أَبُو زَيْدٍ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ عَقِبًا وَكَانَ بَدْرِيًّا " .
Narrated Anas: Abu Zaid died and did not leave any offspring, and he was one of the Badr warriors.

Hadith Commentary:
Abu Zayd’s name is Qays ibn Sakan.
He was an Ansari and from the Khazraj tribe.
Among the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) who compiled the Qur’an during the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), he was also included.
He was the uncle of Anas (radi Allahu anhu).
His kunyah (honorific title) is more commonly used than his given name.
He passed away without leaving any children.
According to one narration, Anas (radi Allahu anhu) says that we became the heirs to his estate.

He participated in the Battle of Badr, and for this reason, Imam al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) has mentioned this hadith.
