Narrated Abu Mijlaz: From Qais bin Ubad: `Ali bin Abi Talib said, "I shall be the first man to kneel down before (Allah), the Beneficent to receive His judgment on the day of Resurrection (in my favor)." Qais bin Ubad also said, "The following Verse was revealed in their connection:-- "These two opponents believers and disbelievers) Dispute with each other About their Lord." (22.19) Qais said that they were those who fought on the day of Badr, namely, Hamza, `Ali, 'Ubaida or Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Harith, Shaiba bin Rabi`a, `Utba and Al-Wahd bin `Utba.

Hadith Commentary:
What happened was that on the day of Badr, three men from the disbelievers came forth onto the battlefield and said, "O Muhammad! Send forth people to fight us."
From the Muslim side, the Ansar went forward to face them, but the disbelievers said, "We do not wish to fight you. We want to face our own kin, that is, the people of Quraysh."
At that moment, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "O Hamzah! Stand up. O Ali! O Ubaydah! Stand up."
Hamzah stood opposite Shaybah, and Ali stood opposite Walid.
Hamzah killed Shaybah, Ali killed Walid, and Ubaydah and Utbah were striking at each other until Ali (radi Allahu anhu) came and finished off Utbah, and then carried Ubaydah back.
