Narrated Abu `Uthman: I heard that Ibn `Umar used to become angry if someone mentioned that he had migrated before his father (`Umar), and he used to say, " `Umar and I came to Allah's Apostle and found him having his midday rest, so we returned home. Then `Umar sent me again (to the Prophet ) and said, 'Go and see whether he is awake.' I went to him and entered his place and gave him the pledge of allegiance. Then I went back to `Umar and informed him that the Prophet was awake. So we both went, running slowly, and when `Umar entered his place, he gave him the pledge of allegiance and thereafter I too gave him the pledge of allegiance."

Hadith Commentary:
It is as if Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) has clarified the reason for the people's erroneous statement—that this was the actual reality.
Upon this, some people assumed that I had migrated before my father; this is completely incorrect.

Hadith Commentary:
When someone would say to Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) that you migrated before Umar (radi Allahu anhu), he would respond in a manner as if speaking in anger.
The reason for this was that he did not want to be given precedence over his father.
It is as if Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) clarified the cause of this misunderstanding among people, that the real truth was that some people had assumed that I migrated before my esteemed father, whereas this was absolutely not the case.
It appears that this refers to the incident of the Pledge of Ridwan (Bay‘at al-Ridwan).
The pledge upon arriving in Madinah Tayyibah is not intended here, because at that time Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu) was very young and not in a position to participate in the pledge.
Three years after that, the Battle of Uhud took place, and due to his young age, he was not granted permission to participate in the battle.
