حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَهُمْ ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ : قَالَ جَابِرٌ : " أَنَا وَأَبِي وَخَالِي مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْعَقَبَةِ " .
Narrated Jabir: My father, my two maternal uncles and I were among those who took part in the 'Aqaba Pledge.

Hadith Commentary:
Qastallani said that Jabir's mother's name was Naseebah; her brothers were Tha'labah and Amr. Bara' was not Jabir's maternal uncle, but he was among his mother's relatives, and the Arabs refer to all of a mother's relatives as "khal" (maternal uncle).

Hadith Commentary:
1.
Al-Bara’ bin Ma’rur radi Allahu anhu was the foster maternal uncle of Jabir radi Allahu anhu. On the night of the Second Aqabah, he was the very first to pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. At that time, he was a chief among the Ansar. He passed away one month before the arrival of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Madinah Tayyibah.

At the time of this pledge, there were seventy-three men and two women from among the Ansar; they invited the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to come to Madinah Tayyibah. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam appointed twelve of them as leaders (naqib), whose names are as follows:

Among them, Bara’ bin Ma‘rur radi Allahu anhu was the first elder who pledged allegiance that night; this pledge became the foundational stone for the propagation of Islam. We have already mentioned its details at the beginning of the chapter on the virtues of the Ansar.

It should be noted that the name of Jabir radi Allahu anhu’s mother was Naseebah. Bara’ bin Ma‘rur radi Allahu anhu was not his real (biological) uncle, but rather among his foster uncles or among the relatives of his mother. Among the Arabs, all of a mother’s relatives are referred to as “khal” (maternal uncle).
