Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
The meaning of the hadith is that Allah, the Exalted, should make our followers among the Ansar and grant them the same honor and dignity that has been bestowed upon us, or the intent is that they should follow in our footsteps and attain the same status that we have received. Accordingly, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) supplicated for them:
“O Allah! Forgive the Ansar, forgive their sons, and have mercy and grace upon their grandsons.”
(Sahih Muslim, Virtues of the Companions, Hadith: 64. 14(2506))
In another narration, he supplicated in these words:
“O Allah! Forgive the Ansar, their children, and their allies and freed slaves (mawali).”
(Sahih Muslim, Virtues of the Companions, Hadith: 64. 16(2507))
The intent of the Ansar was that just as we have a rank and status, likewise our children, slaves, allies, and those connected to us should also attain the same rank. Thus, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), honoring their wishes, supplicated for them.

Hadith Commentary:
Hafiz said: Shu’bah’s assumption is correct; Abu Nu’aym has definitely narrated this from Zayd ibn Arqam through the route of Ali ibn Ja’d in his Mustakhraj.
