Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet or Abul-Qasim said, "If the Ansar took their way through a valley or a mountain pass, I would take Ansar's valley. And but for the migration, I would have been one of the Ansar." Abu Huraira used to say, "The Prophet is not unjust (by saying so). May my parents be sacrificed for him, for the Ansar sheltered and helped him," or said a similar sentence.

Hadith Commentary:
It is evident that the status of the Ansar is very great, as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) expressed the wish to be among this group. The acceptance of the Ansar in the sight of Allah is an open proof of this, that their name remains alive with goodness alongside Islam and the Qur'an until the Day of Judgment.
Even today, wherever the Ansari brothers are, they continue to take an active and prominent part in religious services.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The purpose of this hadith is to express the virtue of the Ansar, that the Ansar have attained such a lofty status.
If the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) were not among the Muhajirun, he would have counted himself among the Ansar.
The conclusion is that, had it not been for the superiority granted to him over the Ansar due to migration (hijrah), he would have considered himself among the Ansar.
➋
It is also possible that the Ansar were the maternal uncles of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and on account of this familial relationship, he said that if migration were not an obstacle, he would have attributed himself to the Ansar.
This demonstrates the humility and modesty of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and it is an encouragement for people to honor the Ansar so that they may show them due respect.
