Narrated Muhammad: Anas bin Malik said, "The head of Al-Husain was brought to 'Ubaidullah bin Ziyad and was put in a tray, and then Ibn Ziyad started playing with a stick at the nose and mouth of Al-Husain's head and saying something about his handsome features." Anas then said (to him), "Al-Husain resembled the Prophet more than the others did." Anas added, "His (i.e. Al-Husain's) hair was dyed with Wasma (i.e. a kind of plant used as a dye).

Hadith Commentary:
1.
In Jami' al-Tirmidhi, it is mentioned that Ibn Ziyad struck the nose of Husayn (radi Allahu anhu) with a stick and said, "How beautiful this is."
(Jami' al-Tirmidhi, al-Manaqib, Hadith: 3778)
In al-Mu'jam al-Kabir of Tabarani, it is stated that he would strike the two eyes and the nose with a stick, so Zayd ibn Arqam (radi Allahu anhu) said to him:
"Lift your stick from his head.
I have seen the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) kissing this very place."
(al-Mu'jam al-Kabir by al-Tabarani: 5/210, No. 5121)
In Musnad al-Bazzar, it is mentioned that Anas (radi Allahu anhu) said to Ibn Ziyad, "I have seen the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) kissing the very place where you are striking with your stick," so he stopped. (Musnad al-Bazzar: 2/299, No. 6632; and Fath al-Bari: 7/122)
2.
Wasmah is a plant with which hair is dyed.
It causes the hair to become blackish; pure black is prohibited. If the color of henna (mehndi) predominates in it, then there is no prohibition. The intent of the Shari'ah is that the whiteness of the hair should not be confused with the blackness of youthful hair, so that an old person does not appear young.
And Allah knows best.

Explanation:
1:
This statement was made as a taunt and mockery regarding the beauty and handsomeness of Husayn radi Allahu anhu. That is why Anas ibn Malik radi Allahu anhu responded to him.
2:
Previously, under hadith (no. 3786), a narration from al-Zuhri from Anas radi Allahu anhu has been mentioned. In that narration, it is stated that no one resembled the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam more than Hasan ibn Ali radi Allahu anhuma, and in this narration, it is stated that Husayn ibn Ali radi Allahu anhuma resembled him the most. Apparently, there seems to be a contradiction between the two narrations. The scholars have reconciled the two narrations in the following ways:
(1) What is mentioned in al-Zuhri’s narration refers to the time when Hasan radi Allahu anhu was alive, and at that time, he resembled the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam more than his brother Husayn ibn Ali radi Allahu anhu. What is mentioned in this narration of Anas radi Allahu anhu refers to the period after the death of Hasan radi Allahu anhu.
(2) It is also said that those who considered Husayn ibn Ali radi Allahu anhuma to resemble the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the most, did so by excluding Hasan radi Allahu anhu.
(3) It is also the case that each of them, in some aspect, resembled the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
