Narrated `Urwa: On the day of the battle of Al-Yarmuk, the companions of the Prophet said to Az-Zubair, "Will you attack the enemy vigorously so that we may attack them along with you?" So Az-Zubair attacked them, and they inflicted two wounds over his shoulder, and in between these two wounds there was an old scar he had received on the day of the battle of Badr When I was a child, I used to insert my fingers into those scars in play.

Hadith Commentary:
Yarmouk is the name of a place in the region of Sham (Greater Syria); at this location, a great battle took place against the Romans.
This war against the Romans was fought during the caliphate of Umar radi Allahu anhu.
The commander of the Muslim army was Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah radi Allahu anhu.
Allah, exalted is He, granted victory to the Muslims.
A great amount of war booty (mal-e-ghanīmah) came into the hands of the Muslims.
In this battle, Zubayr ibn al-Awwam radi Allahu anhu, along with other devoted companions, displayed his bravery and self-sacrifice.
He was returning to Madinah Tayyibah after bidding farewell to the Battle of Jamal, when in the valley of Saba‘, a man named ‘Amr ibn Jurmuz killed him.
When he was brought before Ali radi Allahu anhu at Khaybar, he (Ali) said regarding him:
"Give him the glad tidings of Hellfire."
He was martyred on 10 Jumada al-Ula, 36 AH, corresponding to 25 November 656 CE.
On the day of his martyrdom, his age was 77 years.
