Hadith 3720

Narrated `Abdullah bin Az-Zubair: During the battle of Al-Ahzab, I and `Umar bin Abi-Salama were kept behind with the women. Behold! I saw (my father) Az-Zubair riding his horse, going to and coming from Bani Quraiza twice or thrice. So when I came back I said, "O my father! I saw you going to and coming from Bani Quraiza?" He said, "Did you really see me, O my son?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Allah's Apostle said, 'Who will go to Bani Quraiza and bring me their news?' So I went, and when I came back, Allah's Apostle mentioned for me both his parents saying, "Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you."'

Hadith Commentary:

This is a great virtue of Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), being pleased, said:
“My parents be sacrificed for you.”
On the occasion of the Battle of Uhud, this same honor was attained by Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (radi Allahu anhu), when the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) combined both his parents and said regarding him:
“My parents be sacrificed for you.”
As will be mentioned in the virtues of Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (radi Allahu anhu).
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Virtues of the Companions of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam),
Hadith: 3725)

At the time of the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwah Khandaq), the age of Ibn Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) was, at most, three years and a few months.
To remember events at such an age is a remarkable and extraordinary example of a strong memory.
