Hadith Commentary:
To have love for the Ahl al-Bayt (the family of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), the purified wives (azwaj mutahharat radi Allahu anhunna ajma'in), and all other relatives—including Sayyidah Fatimah radi Allahu anha, Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu, and their offspring radi Allahu anhum ajma'in—is necessary.
From the perspective of love, veneration, and recognition of the rights of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, it is obligatory for the believers, and to have love for them in due measure is, in reality, a requirement of love for the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself.
The demand for such love applies to all the people of Islam, as is established from the aforementioned statement of Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu.
