Hadith 3553

Narrated Abu Juhaifa: Once Allah's Apostle went to Al-Batha' at noon, performed the ablution and offered' a two rak`at Zuhr prayer and a two-rak`at `Asr prayer while a spearheaded stick was planted before him and the passersby were passing in front of it. (After the prayer), the people got up and held the hands of the Prophet and passed them on their faces. I also took his hand and kept it on my face and noticed that it was colder than ice, and its smell was nicer than musk.

Hadith Commentary:
In one narration, it is mentioned that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) rinsed his mouth with water in a bucket and poured that water into a well, after which the well began to emit a fragrance like musk.
Umm Sulaym (radi Allahu anha) collected the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sweat and kept it; when she mixed it with perfume, it became more fragrant than any other scent.
Abu Ya’la and al-Bazzar have narrated with a sound chain that whenever the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) passed through any street of Madinah, it would become fragrant.
A poor woman did not have any perfume.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) gave her a little of his sweat in a vial, and because of it, all the people of Madinah would perceive a scent like musk.
Her house became known as “Bayt al-Mutayyibin” (the House of the Perfumed Ones).

Hadith Commentary:
1.
The statement of Jabir bin Samurah radi Allahu anhu is that I performed the Zuhr prayer with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in Madinah Tayyibah, then he went to his family. I also accompanied him. The children welcomed him. He would affectionately and lovingly place his hand on each of their cheeks. Since I was also a child, he placed his hand on my cheek as well, and I felt such coolness and fragrance in his hand as if he had just taken it out from the perfume box of a perfumer.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Fada’il, Hadith: 6052(2329))
Anas radi Allahu anhu states:
The complexion of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was radiant white, his sweat was as if pearls, and when he walked, he would lean forward slightly. I have never touched any silk softer than the palm of his hand, nor have I ever smelled musk or ambergris more fragrant than his scent.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Fada’il, Hadith: 6054(2330))
Fragrance was his noble attribute, even if he did not use perfume.
Jabir radi Allahu anhu states that whenever the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed through a path and someone else passed by after him, he would recognize that the caravan of spring had passed through here by the fragrance of his perfumed body and sweat.
2.
The wisdom in the blessed hand of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam being cooler than ice is that the coolness of his hand indicates the complete soundness of his pure body from every defect.
