Narrated `Aisha: Once Hassan bin Thabit asked the permission of the Prophet to lampoon (i.e. compose satirical poetry defaming) the infidels. The Prophet said, "What about the fact that I have common descent with them?" Hassan replied, "I shall take you out of them as a hair is taken out of dough." Narrated `Urwa: I started abusing Hassan in front of `Aisha, whereupon she said. "Don't abuse him, for he used to defend the Prophet (with his poetry).

Hadith Commentary:
Hazrat Hassan radi Allahu anhu, on one occasion, faltered.
That is, he sided with those who accused Hazrat Aisha radi Allahu anha, but later he repented. However, this incident remained in the memories of some hearts, but Hazrat Aisha radi Allahu anha herself praised him and remembered him with good words, as is mentioned here.
The polytheists who would malign the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Hazrat Hassan would respond to them—and what a response it was, that it would make the hearts of the polytheists writhe like snakes.
Many eulogistic poems (qasā’id na‘tiyyah) of Hazrat Hassan radi Allahu anhu are recorded in books, and a collection (diwan) has also been published under his name in which many such poems are mentioned.
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not approve of lampooning the polytheists of Quraysh without necessity.
This is the purpose of the chapter.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
From this hadith, it is understood that when someone is satirized through poetry, it becomes necessary to touch upon lineage. That is why the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“My lineage is connected to the lineage of Quraysh; what will become of it?” So they submitted:
O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! I will extract your lineage from their satire in the best manner, such that I will not allow any part of your lineage to be included in the satire.
➋
When a hair is removed from kneaded dough, no dough sticks to it; rather, it comes out clean.
If a hair is removed from honey, then honey sticks to it, or if it is removed from bread, it breaks.
If a thread is removed from dough, some dough will stick to it.
This is a unique characteristic of dough and hair, that nothing sticks to it.
➌
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The polytheists are not harmed as much by a shower of arrows as they are by satire through poetry.”
Accordingly, he appointed Abdullah ibn Rawahah, Ka‘b ibn Malik, and Hassan ibn Thabit (radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in) for this task.
