Hadith 3516

Sulaiman bin Harb narrated to us, he said: Hammad narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Muhammad, and from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) who narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Some people from the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaina, and Juhaina—or he said: some people from Muzaina, or he said: some people from Juhaina—will be, in the sight of Allah, or he said: on the Day of Resurrection, better than the tribes of Asad, Tamim, Hawazin, and Ghatafan.
Narrated Abu Bakra: Al-Aqra' bin Habis said to the Prophet "Nobody gave you the pledge of allegiance but the robbers of the pilgrims (i.e. those who used to rob the pilgrims) from the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaina." (Ibn Abi Ya'qub is in doubt whether Al-Aqra' added. 'And Juhaina.') The Prophet said, "Don't you think that the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaina (and also perhaps) Juhaina are better than the tribes of Bani Tamim, Bani Amir, Asad, and Ghatafan?" Somebody said, "They were unsuccessful and losers!" The Prophet said, "Yes, by Him in Whose Hands my life is, they (i.e. the former) are better than they (i.e. the latter).

Hadith Commentary:
In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), the tribes of Juhaynah, Muzaynah, Aslam, and Ghifar, as well as the tribes of Banu Tamim, Banu Asad, Banu Abd Allah ibn Ghatafan, and Banu Amir ibn Sa’sa’ah, etc., were considered of lower status.
When Islam came, these tribes were among the first to accept it.
In this honor and virtue, these people surpassed the tribes of Banu Tamim and others.
From the Ghifar tribe, Abu Dharr al-Ghifari radi Allahu anhu and his brother Anis al-Ghifari were the very first to become Muslim.
From Juhaynah, Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani was the first to become Muslim.
From the Muzaynah tribe, Abdullah ibn Mughaffal al-Muzani, Iyas ibn Hilal, and his son Qarra ibn Iyas were the first to accept Islam.
Similarly, from the Ashja’ tribe, the first to embrace Islam was Nu’aym ibn Mas’ud al-Ashja’i.
In any case, these five tribes—Juhaynah, Muzaynah, Aslam, Ghifar, and Ashja’—are all related to Mudar, and in comparison, Tamim, Asad, Ghatafan, and Hawazin are also from Mudar.
And Allah knows best.
