Hadith Footnote:
And Nadr bin Kinanah is a branch of Mudar, because Kinanah was the son of Khuzaymah, and Khuzaymah was the son of Mudrikah, and Mudrikah was the son of Ilyas, and Ilyas was the son of Mudar.
In this way, the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) genealogical connection to the family of Mudar is established.
Zaynab (radi Allahu anha), the Mother of the Believers, is the daughter of Umm Salamah (radi Allahu anha).
She was born in the land of Abyssinia, and had the honor of being raised under the care of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as a stepdaughter. Her husband’s name is Abdullah bin Zam‘ah.
Among the women of her time, she was the most learned in jurisprudence (fiqh), and a group narrated hadith from her.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The purpose of this hadith is to mention your noble lineage, that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) belonged to the tribe of Mudar, which was renowned among the Arabs for generosity and munificence, courage and bravery, and nobility and integrity.
It has several branches.
The branch to which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was genealogically connected is the branch of Nadr ibn Kinana, because Kinana was the son of Khuzaymah, and Khuzaymah’s father was Mudrikah, and Mudrikah was the son of Ilyas, and Ilyas’s father was Mudar. Thus, Mudar is the most distant ancestor.
In this way, the genealogical connection of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to the family of Mudar is established.
A hadith is narrated from Hazrat Wathilah (radi Allahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“Allah, the Exalted, chose Kinana from the descendants of Isma’il (alayhis salam), and from Kinana He chose Quraysh, and from Quraysh He chose Banu Hashim, and from Banu Hashim He chose me.”
(Sahih Muslim, al-Fada’il, Hadith: 5938(2276))
➋
It should be noted that the tribe of Mudar, in the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), used to follow the religion of Ibrahim and was renowned for serving the pilgrims.
And Allah knows best.
