Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Dawood Raz
Hadith Commentary:
Placing the hand on the hip was a habit of the Jews, and it was also an expression of arrogance.
For this reason, it has been declared disliked.
Mention of the Jews is present here; this is the reason for the relevance to the chapter.

Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
➊
Although in the hadith, placing the hands on the hips is described in absolute terms as disliked (makruh), it is, however, restricted to the state of prayer, because in one narration it is explicitly mentioned that Aisha (radi Allahu anha) disliked placing the hands on the hips during prayer and said:
"This is how the Jews do."
(Fath al-Bari: 6/608)
➋
It is said that this is how the people of Hell will act at times of comfort, and also that this is the posture of a person who has been exhausted by calamity.
It is also said that when Shaytan was cast down to the earth, this was his state.
Since there is arrogance in this as well, it has been declared disliked.
And Allah knows best.
(‘Umdat al-Qari: 11/209)
➌
Since the mention of the Jews occurs incidentally in this hadith, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has cited this narration.
