Narrated `Aisha and Ibn `Abbas: On his death-bed Allah's Apostle put a sheet over his-face and when he felt hot, he would remove it from his face. When in that state (of putting and removing the sheet) he said, "May Allah's Curse be on the Jews and the Christians for they build places of worship at the graves of their prophets." (By that) he intended to warn (the Muslim) from what they (i.e. Jews and Christians) had done.

Hadith Commentary:
In this hadith, a characteristic of the Israelites—the Jews and Christians—has been described: they turned the graves of their prophets and righteous people into places of worship.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) also said:
“Do not gather around my grave in crowds, and do not create an atmosphere of festivity over it.” Meanwhile, Allama Hali has said:
“Do not make my grave an idol for worship.”
Alas! The so-called Muslims have done exactly with graves and shrines what the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had forbidden, and by acting in accordance with the warning expressed in the hadith, they have prepared the means for their own destruction.
