Hudhaifa added, "I also heard him saying, 'From among the people preceding your generation, there was a man whom the angel of death visited to capture his soul. (So his soul was captured) and he was asked if he had done any good deed.' He replied, 'I don't remember any good deed.' He was asked to think it over. He said, 'I do not remember, except that I used to trade with the people in the world and I used to give a respite to the rich and forgive the poor (among my debtors). So Allah made him enter Paradise."

Hadith Commentary:
A similar narration is also reported from Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, who relates from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that he said:
“A merchant used to conduct transactions and buy and sell with people. If he saw someone in difficulty, he would instruct his staff to overlook (the debt) and pardon him, perhaps Allah the Exalted will overlook us and pardon us because of this deed. So Allah the Exalted forgave him and overlooked his sins.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Buyu‘, Hadith: 2078)
In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whoever grants respite to a person in difficulty or pardons him, Allah the Exalted will grant him a place under His shade on the Day of Resurrection.” (Sahih Muslim, al-Zuhd wa al-Raqa’iq, Hadith: 7512(3006))
