Hadith 3433

«يبشرك‏» and «ويبشرك» (mazid and mujarad) both have the same meaning. «وجيها‏» means noble. Ibrahim Nakha'i said «مسيح» refers to «صديق‏.‏». Mujahid said «كهلا‏» means ruined. «أكمه» is one who sees during the day but not at night. This is the statement of Mujahid. Others have said «أكمه» means congenitally blind.
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari: The Prophet said, "The superiority of `Aisha to other ladies is like the superiority of Tharid (i.e. meat and bread dish) to other meals. Many men reached the level of perfection, but no woman reached such a level except Mary, the daughter of `Imran and Asia, the wife of Pharaoh."

Hadith Commentary:

This hadith has already been mentioned previously.
It should be noted that the superiority of tharid over other foods is due to the fact that it contains nourishment, taste, strength, and ease in chewing; furthermore, it is easily digestible.

From this hadith, the virtue and superiority of Aisha (radi Allahu anha) is established.
She had reached the highest degree in good character, eloquence, and maturity of opinion.

In this hadith, "perfection" refers to the highest degree of sainthood (wilayah), which is below prophethood, because prophethood is only for men; no woman has ever held the rank of prophethood. Although it is narrated from Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari (rahimahullah) that six women were prophetesses: Hawwa, Sarah, the mother of Musa, Hajar, Asiya, and Maryam (alayha as-salam), his position is contrary to the consensus (ijma') of the Ummah.
And Allah knows best.

English Translation:

Tharid is a dish that is quickly prepared, easily digested, and delicious. The knowledge of Aisha (radi Allahu anha) was, for the Ummah, as accessible, beneficial, substantial, and pleasant as tharid. In reality, the knowledge of Aisha (radi Allahu anha) benefited the Ummah in a way that the knowledge of all other women did not even benefit to a tenth of that extent. In memorization, intelligence, acumen, understanding of matters, eloquence, and teaching and oratory, even men could not compete with her. Radi Allahu anhunna wa ardaahunna. However, from this narration, Aisha (radi Allahu anha) cannot be proven superior, because this virtue is partial; otherwise, tharid is not superior to all foods in every respect. From other narrations, it is known that among women, the most virtuous is your first and honored wife, Khadijah (radi Allahu anha), whom you described as the best of her women. See: (Sahih al-Bukhari, Ahadith al-Anbiya, Chapter: {وَإِذْ قَالَتِ الْمَلائِكَةُ يَا مَرْيَمُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَاكِ}, Hadith: 3442; and Sahih Muslim, Fada’il al-Sahabah, Chapter: Among the Virtues of Khadijah, Hadith: 2430). You could not forget her until the last moments of your life. In loyalty to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), good conduct, self-sacrifice, and love, she was far ahead of all your pure wives (radi Allahu anhunna). In noble character and virtuous qualities as well, her rank was very high. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself said: “Indeed, she was such and such,” meaning she possessed these virtues and perfections. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Manaqib al-Ansar, Chapter: The Marriage of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to Khadijah and her Virtue, Hadith: 3818)
