Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, he said: Shu'ayb informed us, he said: Abu al-Zinad narrated to us, then he transmitted the same hadith. But in the first narration, «قدوم» is with a stressed "dal", and in this one, «قدوم» is with a lightened "dal". Both have the same meaning. That is, "basulah" (which is a famous weapon of old women, also called "baswah"). Along with Shu'ayb, this hadith was also narrated by 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq from Abu al-Zinad, and 'Ajlan from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and Muhammad ibn 'Amr from Abu Salamah, who narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "Abraham did his circumcision with an adze at the age of eighty." Narrated Abu Az-Zinad: With an adze.

Hadith Commentary:
At this very age, he was commanded to perform circumcision (khitan). There was no razor available, so in obedience to the divine command, he himself performed circumcision with an adze.
This is explicitly mentioned in the narration of Abu Ya’la.
Some deniers of hadith have objected to this hadith as well, which is evidence of their foolishness.
When a human being can commit suicide,
when he can cut his own neck with his own hand, then what is so astonishing about Prophet Ibrahim performing circumcision on himself with an adze?
And to object to circumcision at the age of eighty is also foolishness; when the divine command was given, it was fulfilled.
The deniers of hadith are utterly devoid of reason.
Explanation:
Prophet Ibrahim (alayhis salam) was commanded to perform circumcision at the age of eighty, and at that time he did not have a razor with him.
He did not consider delay appropriate and fulfilled the divine command in that very situation; this is explicitly mentioned in the narration of Abu Ya’la.
The narration of Abdur Rahman bin Ishaq has been connected by Musaddad in his Musnad, the narration of ‘Ajlan by Imam Ahmad, and the narration of Muhammad bin ‘Amr by Abu Ya’la.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah himself has clarified that "Qadoom" (with the letter "dal" having a shaddah) is the name of a place.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Isti’dhan, Hadith: 6298)
However, in all the narrations of Sahih Muslim, this word is narrated with a light (non-emphasized) pronunciation.
(Sahih Muslim, al-Fada’il, Hadith: 6141(2370))
The meaning of which is: an adze (a type of cutting tool).
There is no contradiction between these two narrations because it is possible that Prophet Ibrahim alayhis salam was at the place called Qadoom at the time of this command, and there he fulfilled the command using an adze.
2.
It is noteworthy that Prophet Ibrahim alayhis salam was eighty years old, and he was not at his home but at another place when he was commanded to perform circumcision (khitan). Furthermore, there was no razor or similar tool available there for circumcision, so to fulfill the command, he himself cut a part of the delicate organ with an adze, the pain of which continued to be felt for a long time.
But the deniers of hadith mock this, saying: What is so astonishing about this? When a person can commit suicide, can cut his own neck with his own hand, then if Prophet Ibrahim alayhis salam performed circumcision at this age, what is so remarkable about it? In any case, likening the action of Prophet Ibrahim alayhis salam to suicide is nothing short of foolishness.
In one narration it is mentioned:
When Prophet Ibrahim alayhis salam experienced pain from the circumcision, Allah Ta’ala sent revelation saying that you acted hastily.
He replied:
O Allah! I could not bear to delay in Your command, so I hastened to fulfill it.

Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
From the title of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, it is understood that circumcision (khitan) is obligatory (wajib), because this ruling is not abrogated even after reaching an advanced age. Thus, Ibrahim alayhis salam performed circumcision at the age of eighty (80) years, even though at such an age circumcision causes pain. If it were not obligatory, he would not have endured the pain of circumcision at that stage of life. In addition, a man came to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and accepted Islam; the Prophet said to him: "Remove the hair of disbelief and perform circumcision (khitan)." (Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Taharah, Hadith: 356) Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah has also stated its obligation. (Fath al-Bari: 11/106)

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: This hadith establishes that if a person, due to some reason or ignorance, is unable to undergo circumcision (khitan) during childhood, then whenever he gets the opportunity, he should have the circumcision performed, unless there is some Shar‘i (Islamic legal) or natural impediment. And it is better that the child’s circumcision be performed on the seventh day.
The second meaning of this hadith is that Ibrahim (alayhis salam) performed his circumcision at a place called Qadoom. (Qamus)
