Hadith 3355

Narrated Mujahid: That when the people mentioned before Ibn `Abbas that the Dajjal would have the word Kafir, (i.e. unbeliever) or the letters Kafir (the root of the Arabic verb 'disbelieve') written on his forehead, I heard Ibn `Abbas saying, "I did not hear this, but the Prophet said, 'If you want to see Abraham, then look at your companion (i.e. the Prophet) but Moses was a curly-haired, brown man (who used to ride) a red camel, the reins of which was made of fires of date-palms. As if I were now looking down a valley."

Explanation & Benefits

Hadith Commentary:
With the word "companion," the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was alluding to his own blessed self.
This is because he bore a much greater resemblance to Prophet Ibrahim (alayhis salam).

Hadith Commentary:

In this hadith, the mention of Dajjal is in the form of a parenthetical statement.
The position of Ahl al-Sunnah is that the word "kafir" will be literally written on Dajjal's forehead, which will be visible to the believer even if he is illiterate, by which he will recognize Dajjal's true nature.

In the Arabic language, the word "ja‘dad" is used in two meanings:
One, a person with a strong and compact body; the other, a person with curly hair.
In our translation, we have preferred the first meaning, that Prophet Musa (alayhis salam) was of a compact physique, because regarding his hair, other ahadith mention that he had straight hair.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Anbiya, Hadith: 3394)

According to this hadith, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) resembled his ancestor, Prophet Ibrahim (alayhis salam), in character, conduct, and appearance.
For this reason, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has mentioned this hadith here.
