Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah has made an opening in the wall of the Gog and Magog (people) like this, and he made with his hand (with the help of his fingers).

(1)
Their lineage is from the descendants of Adam.
Other than Adam, they are not created from anyone else.

(2)
They are so numerous that the Muslim community will be only a thousandth part compared to these disbelievers.

(3)
Riot and corruption are inherent in their nature.
Dhul-Qarnayn sealed those mountain passes with iron to protect others from their attacks, through which they used to assault others.

(4)
In the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), a person saw this barrier of Dhul-Qarnayn, which was like an embroidered cloth.

(5)
In the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), that wall had become somewhat weakened, so that a small hole had appeared in it.

(6)
Near the Day of Judgment, that wall will become level with the ground, and Yajuj and Majuj will surge forth like the waves of the sea.

(7)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
The Hour will not be established
until the signs appear.
Among them is the attack of Yajuj and Majuj.
Soon after their onslaught, the Day of Judgment will be established.
The narrations transmitted regarding their stature do not meet the standards of authenticity set by the hadith scholars.

Hadith translation:
Muslim ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Wahib narrated to us, from Ibn Tawus, from his father Tawus, from Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu), who narrated that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Allah the Exalted has opened so much from the wall of Yajuj and Majuj, then he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) indicated the number ninety with his fingers.

Hadith Footnote:
Explanation:
In the ‘Aqd Anamil (joining of the fingers), its form is such that the little finger and the ring finger are closed, and the index finger is also closed, and the thumb is placed on the middle finger.
Qastallani said: The intent is not that exactly this much portion is open. In one narration it is mentioned that Yajuj and Majuj dig at it daily, and when only a little remains, they say: “We will come and break it tomorrow.” Allah the Exalted restores it overnight to its original strength. When the time for its breaking arrives, on that day they will say: “We will come and break it tomorrow, insha’Allah.” That night, the wall will remain as it is, and in the morning they will break through and emerge.

Hadith Commentary:

The historians of Islam refer to this wall as the barrier of Gog and Magog (Ya’juj wa Ma’juj), which the righteous and compassionate king Dhu’l-Qarnayn had constructed to seal a mountain pass in the region of Jabal al-Tay. There was a wide pass in this mountain through which the tribes of Gog and Magog would launch their attacks. Dhu’l-Qarnayn al-Himyari first placed large iron plates in layers, one above the other. When its height became equal to the mountains on both sides, he kindled a great fire using wood and coal. When the iron became red-hot like fire, molten copper was poured over it from above, which solidified in the crevices of the iron sheets and became firmly embedded. All of this together formed a structure like a mountain. Due to the color of the copper and the blackness of the iron, this wall appeared like an ornamented sheet, as mentioned by a Companion, and a man from among the people of Madinah said: “O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! I have seen the barrier of Gog and Magog.” He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) inquired: “What was it like?” He replied: “Like an ornamented sheet in which there were red and black stripes.” He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “Indeed, you have seen it.” (Umdat al-Qari: 47/11)

In the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), cracks had already appeared in it, and before the Day of Resurrection, it will be destroyed.

From this hadith, it is also understood that when Allah’s punishment descends as a result of the abundance of sins, then along with the wicked, the righteous are also wiped from the face of the earth. May Allah protect us from it.

Hadith Commentary:
In our time, many people are doubtful about this: when Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj) are such a large nation that none of them dies until he has seen a thousand of his own descendants, then in which part of the world is this nation currently settled?
The geographers have explored the entire world; it is possible that a small island may have escaped their notice, but it is far-fetched to assume that such a vast land, inhabited by such a populous nation, would remain unseen.
Secondly, in this era, people climb very high mountains and even bore such tunnels through them that trains can pass through. So how could this wall possibly prevent them? The hardest material in the world is steel, and even that can be easily pierced. No matter how high a wall is, people can climb it using tools.
With dynamite, it could be brought down in an instant.
The answer to these doubts is that we do not claim that the wall still exists and is holding back Gog and Magog.
However, until the time of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), it certainly did exist, and at that time, industry and technology were not so widespread in the world, so it is not surprising that the wild tribes of Gog and Magog were held back by this wall.
As for the statement that none of Gog and Magog dies until he has seen a thousand of his own descendants—
It is also possible that this refers to that era when human lifespans used to be a thousand or two thousand years, not to our time, when the average human lifespan has been reduced to a hundred or a hundred and twenty years.
After all, Gog and Magog are also human; just as our lifespans have decreased, so too would theirs. Now, as for the reports transmitted from the Companions (radi Allahu anhum) and the Followers (tabi‘in) regarding their stature and ears, their chains of transmission are not authentic or reliable. And among the nations observed by the geographers, two of the great nations are Gog and Magog.

Hadith Commentary:
There are many baseless narrations about Gog and Magog (Ya’juj wa Ma’juj) that are popular among the people. What is established from authentic ahadith is only this much: that Gog and Magog are two nations. Dhu’l-Qarnayn built a strong wall and enclosed them behind it. Near the Day of Judgment, they will break out swiftly into every town and will overturn everything.

In the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), a small hole had already appeared in this wall. Eventually, they will succeed in breaking through the wall and coming out. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) described their tribulation in these words:

“After the killing of Dajjal, Allah, the Exalted, will reveal to ‘Isa (alayhis salam) that: ‘I am about to send forth servants of Mine whom no one will have the power to fight. Take My servants to Mount Tur.’ After that, Allah will release Gog and Magog, who will come rushing down from every slope. The first of them will drink up the water of Lake Tiberias, and when the last of them pass by, they will say: ‘There was once water here.’

During this time, ‘Isa (alayhis salam) and those with him will be besieged on Mount Tur. The scarcity of food and drink will be so severe that the head of an ox will be more valuable than a hundred dinars. These people will supplicate (to Allah). Then Allah will create a worm in the necks of Gog and Magog, because of which all of them will die at once.

Afterwards, when our master ‘Isa (alayhis salam) and his companions descend to the earth, there will be a stench on account of them (Gog and Magog) spreading over the earth. ‘Isa (alayhis salam) and his companions will supplicate again. Then Allah will send birds whose necks will be like the necks of large camels; they will carry them away and throw them far off.

After that, Allah will send down rain, because of which the earth will become lush and green. On that day, a single pomegranate will suffice for a group of people. People will make a shelter from its rind and use it for shade.”

Benefits and Issues:
In the case of the number ten, the thumb is placed on the upper line of the index finger, and in the case of ninety, it is placed on the lowest line. The purpose is merely to illustrate the concept of smallness.
