Narrated Anas: When `Abdullah bin Salam heard the arrival of the Prophet at Medina, he came to him and said, "I am going to ask you about three things which nobody knows except a prophet: What is the first portent of the Hour? What will be the first meal taken by the people of Paradise? Why does a child resemble its father, and why does it resemble its maternal uncle" Allah's Apostle said, "Gabriel has just now told me of their answers." `Abdullah said, "He (i.e. Gabriel), from amongst all the angels, is the enemy of the Jews." Allah's Apostle said, "The first portent of the Hour will be a fire that will bring together the people from the east to the west; the first meal of the people of Paradise will be Extra-lobe (caudate lobe) of fish-liver. As for the resemblance of the child to its parents: If a man has sexual intercourse with his wife and gets discharge first, the child will resemble the father, and if the woman gets discharge first, the child will resemble her." On that `Abdullah bin Salam said, "I testify that you are the Apostle of Allah." `Abdullah bin Salam further said, "O Allah's Apostle! The Jews are liars, and if they should come to know about my conversion to Islam before you ask them (about me), they would tell a lie about me." The Jews came to Allah's Apostle and `Abdullah went inside the house. Allah's Apostle asked (the Jews), "What kind of man is `Abdullah bin Salam amongst you?" They replied, "He is the most learned person amongst us, and the best amongst us, and the son of the best amongst us." Allah's Apostle said, "What do you think if he embraces Islam (will you do as he does)?" The Jews said, "May Allah save him from it." Then `Abdullah bin Salam came out in front of them saying, "I testify that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah." Thereupon they said, "He is the evilest among us, and the son of the evilest amongst us," and continued talking badly of him.

Hadith Commentary:
Abdullah bin Salam radi Allahu anhu was a great scholar of the Jews who, upon seeing the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, immediately recognized the truth of Muhammad and accepted Islam. Radi Allahu anhu wa ardah.
As for what some people narrate, that Abdullah bin Salam asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam a thousand questions, this is incorrect. Similarly, the treatise of a thousand issues is also fabricated.
It is astonishing that Muslims read such false treatises and do not look into the authentic books of hadith. In the same way, most of the narrations in “Subh al-Satara,” “Waqa’iq al-Akhbar,” “Munabbihat,” and “Dalail al-Khayrat” are fabricated.
There is a narration regarding fire as follows: The Hour will not come until a fire appears in Hijaz, the light of which will illuminate the necks of the camels in Busra.
This narration is found in Sahih Muslim and al-Hakim.
Imam Nawawi rahimahullah writes in the commentary of this hadith that this fire appeared in our time, in the year 654 AH, in Madinah, and the fire was so great that it spread from the eastern side of Madinah up to the mountain. Its news became widely known in Sham and all the cities, and it was narrated to us by a person who was present in Madinah at that time.
Abu Shamah, a contemporary author, states that letters came to us from Madinah in which it was written that on the night of Wednesday, 3rd Jumada al-Thani, there was a severe explosion in Madinah, then a great earthquake occurred which kept increasing hour by hour.
Until, on the fifth date, a very large fire appeared in the mountain near the neighborhood of Qurayzah, which we could see from within our homes in Madinah as if it was very close to us.
When we climbed up to see it, we saw that the mountains were flowing with fire and flames were moving here and there. The flames of the fire looked like mountains. Sparks were flying as high as the neighborhoods.
This fire could be seen even from Makkah Mukarramah and the desert, and this state lasted for more than a month (Tarikh al-Khulafa, quoting Abu Shamah, Events of 654 AH).
Allamah Dhahabi rahimahullah has also mentioned this fire (Mukhtasar Tarikh al-Islam Dhahabi, vol. 2, p. 121, Hyderabad).
Hafiz Suyuti writes that it is narrated from many people who were present in Busra at that time that they saw the necks of the camels of Busra illuminated at night by its light.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has cited this hadith to establish the basis of the creation of the children of Adam.
In a narration from Aisha radi Allahu anha, it is reported that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“When the woman’s fluid prevails over the man’s fluid, the child resembles the maternal uncles, and when the man’s fluid prevails over the woman’s fluid, the child resembles the paternal uncles.”
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Hayd, Hadith: 715.
(313)
In another narration, it is further clarified that the man’s fluid is thick and white, while the woman’s fluid is thin and yellow.
Whichever of them prevails, the child’s resemblance is according to that.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Hayd, Hadith: 710.
(311)
➋
In these narrations, “prevailing” (uluww) means precedence, i.e., the basis of resemblance in form and appearance is whichever fluid reaches the womb first. However, it is narrated from Thawban radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“If the man’s semen prevails over the woman’s semen, then by Allah’s command a boy is born, and if the woman’s fluid prevails over the man’s fluid, then by Allah’s command a girl is born.”
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Hayd, Hadith: 716.
(315)
From these ahadith, it is understood that precedence of the fluid determines the form and appearance, and its predominance determines the gender. In this way, six scenarios are presented before us:
© If the man’s fluid reaches the womb first and also prevails, then a boy is born who will resemble his paternal relatives.
© If the woman’s fluid precedes and also prevails, then a girl is born who will resemble her maternal relatives.
© If the man’s fluid reaches first but the woman’s fluid prevails, then a girl is born who will resemble the paternal relatives.
© If the woman’s fluid precedes but the man’s fluid prevails, then a boy is born who will resemble the maternal relatives.
© If the man’s fluid reaches first but neither prevails, then the form and appearance will be of the paternal relatives, but the gender will not be clear.
If the woman’s fluid reaches first but neither prevails, then the form and appearance will be of the maternal relatives, but the gender will not be clear.
(Fath al-Bari: 7/342)
Perhaps the last two scenarios are the cause of the birth of the third type of creation (hermaphrodites) or the cause of the birth of children with concealed genitalia, whose sexual organs are revealed through surgery.
Further research is needed on this matter.

Hadith Commentary:
When the Jews hear about my acceptance of Islam, they will immediately speak ill, so you have heard their disbelief. At first, they praised, but when it went against their interests, they began to criticize.
This is the very habit of the disbelievers: whoever opposes their way, no matter how learned, virtuous, skilled, or good a person he may be, they still speak ill of him.
Now this calamity has spread everywhere: if any learned or virtuous person disagrees with the corrupt scholars (ulama-e-su’) on a single issue, they set aside all his virtues and excellences and become his enemies. This is a sign of decline and degeneration.
Most of the bigoted juristic scholars are also afflicted with this disease.
Except whom Allah wills.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
This hadith describes a habit of the Jewish people: when they hear something against themselves from someone, they begin to speak abusively in response.
This is the way of immoral people: whoever goes against their temperament, no matter how great a scholar he may be, they will speak ill of him.
The same is the case with corrupt scholars (ulama as-su’): if any learned scholar disagrees with a position they have adopted, they set aside all his virtues and excellences and become his enemies.
Most juristic bigoted scholars are afflicted with this disease.
➋
Since this hadith mentions the arrival of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in Madinah Tayyibah, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has narrated this hadith.
➌
Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) writes that the liver of fish is extremely delicious and the best of foods; therefore, Allah, the Exalted, will first host the people of Paradise in Paradise with this food.
In the hadith of Thawban (radi Allahu anhu), it is mentioned that when the people of Paradise enter Paradise, their breakfast will be from the liver of fish, and they will be served cups filled from the spring of Salsabeel.

200. Commentary: Through intercourse, the semen (mani) of the man and woman mix together. Semen is actually a collection of germs (spermatozoa); whichever semen's germs are stronger, they will dominate over the other, and the child will resemble that one. Some have also interpreted the meaning of «سَبَقَ» as "to come out first." And Allah knows best.
