Hadith 3301

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The main source of disbelief is in the east. Pride and arrogance are characteristics of the owners of horses and camels, and those bedouins who are busy with their camels and pay no attention to Religion; while modesty and gentleness are the characteristics of the owners of sheep."

Understanding of the Hadith:
This report of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was established exactly as stated, and from the beginning of Islam until today, Iraq (which is situated in the east) has remained a center of bloodshed and turmoil.

Hadith Commentary:
The pinnacle of disbelief was stated to be in the East because, from the land of the Arabs, Iran and Turan are all situated to the east, and in that era, the kings of these regions were extremely arrogant.
The king of Iran had torn up the letter of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

Jurisprudential Explanation:
➊ The head of disbelief will emerge from the east of Madinah Tayyibah, that is, from Iraq.
➋ What is meant by Najd? For this and further jurisprudential benefits, see: [الموطأ حديث : 267]
➌ The abundance of horses and camels is a sign of a wealthy person; it is easy for such a person to fall into pride and arrogance. (Except for whom my Lord has mercy.) And goats are a sign of poverty, thus such people are in tranquility. And Allah knows best.
