Hadith 3288

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet said, "While the angels talk amidst the clouds about things that are going to happen on earth, the devils hear a word of what they say and pour it in the ears of a soothsayer as one pours something in a bottle, and they add one hundred lies to that (one word).

Explanation & Benefits

Hadith Commentary:
When one intends to pour something into a glass, one places the mouth of the glass on the side where there is liquid, such as sweat, water, or any other substance, so that it does not spill out.
In the same way, the devil places his mouth at the ear of the soothsayers and secretly whispers these words into their ears.

Hadith Commentary:

If one needs to pour any perfume or oil, etc., into a bottle, it is poured near the mouth of the bottle so that not a single drop falls outside. In the same way, Satan puts his mouth close to the ear of the soothsayer and quietly whispers that matter into his ear.

In this hadith, the trickery of those charlatans has been exposed who, day after day, usurp the wealth of people with weak faith and even play with their honor.

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has narrated this hadith to describe the existence of devils and their activities.
