Hadith Commentary:
Dogs that are kept for protection are exempt from this ruling, as clarified in other narrations.
In the narration, the name of a narrator is transmitted as 'Amr, which is not correct.
In the authentic version, it is 'Umar, who is the son of Muhammad ibn Zayd ibn Abdullah ibn 'Umar, and this is correct.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
Some people hold the view regarding angels that they are immaterial souls (nufus mujarradah) which possess neither intellect nor consciousness, nor perception or feeling.
This position is contrary to the opinion of the majority of Ahl al-Sunnah.
Their view is that angels possess subtle bodies (ajsam latifah) and are able to assume different forms.
Their abode is in the heavens, and they never disobey Allah; rather, at all times they are engaged in the worship and obedience of Allah.
➋
Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah, through these ahadith, has supported the majority opinion of Ahl al-Sunnah that they are spiritual beings (makhluqat ruhaniyyah).
They perform their tasks in accordance with their spiritual nature.
They possess intellect and perception.
This is why they abhor sinful acts.
Depicting living beings is also considered a sin (ma‘siyah) in the sight of Allah; therefore, in any house where there are images, the angels of mercy do not enter.
They are not affected by good or evil.
They rejoice upon seeing good deeds and are displeased upon seeing evil, as is established from these ahadith.
We will present our position regarding images in the future, insha’Allah.

Hadith Commentary:
In another narration, it is stated that when the time had passed and Jibril (alayhis salam) did not come, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "Allah's promise cannot be false, nor that of His angels." Then he saw that under the bed there was a puppy lying. He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "O Aisha! When did this puppy come here?" She replied: "By Allah, I do not know." Eventually, it was removed from there.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The details of this narration are explained in another hadith.
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, who said:
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Jibril alayhis salam came to me and said:
‘I came to you last night, but I was prevented from entering because there were images at the door, a curtain in the house with statues on it, and there was also a dog inside.
Command that the head of the image in the house be cut off so that it becomes like a tree, and command that the curtain be cut and made into two cushions that are thrown down and trampled underfoot, and command that the dog be taken out.’
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam acted according to these instructions.
This dog belonged to Hasan or Husayn radi Allahu anhuma and was under their bed.
When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam gave the order, it was taken out.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Libas, Hadith: 4158)
(2)
In another hadith, it is mentioned that there was a puppy under the bed. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to Aishah radi Allahu anha:
‘When did this dog enter here?’ She expressed her ignorance about it.
By his order, it was taken out.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Libas wa al-Zinah, Hadith: 5511 (2104))
(3)
A denier of hadith said to an Ahl al-Hadith: ‘If angels do not enter a house where there is a dog, then we will always keep a dog with us so that the Angel of Death never comes to us.’
The Ahl al-Hadith replied:
‘The angel who takes the souls of dogs will come to take your soul.’
At this, he was left speechless.
