Hadith Commentary:
In all these ahadith, the moon and the sun are mentioned in one way or another; therefore, they have been cited here.
It is not permissible for a Muslim to speak beyond what has been transmitted from the tongue of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) regarding them.
Contemporary circumstances have made the existence of the moon and the sun even clearer.
Allah the Exalted has stated in the Noble Qur’an:
﴿لَا تَسْجُدُوا لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّـهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ﴾ ()
That is, do not prostrate to the sun or the moon; these are created beings of Allah the Pure.
The only One worthy of prostration is Allah, Who brought all of them into existence.
What has been reported by those who claim to have gone to the moon also confirms the Noble Qur’an, that the moon, like other created beings, is a creation; it is not a goddess, deity, or anything above creation.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
In all these ahadith, the sun and the moon are mentioned in one way or another; therefore, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has narrated them. Since all these changes occur under the power of Allah, it is especially appropriate on such occasions to remember Allah, perform prayer (salah), and give charity and alms, as these are means for the development of faith.
2.
In the present era, the reason given for the eclipse of the sun and the moon is that the earth comes between the sun and the moon; this too is a manifestation of the power of Allah. Therefore, there is no contradiction or disagreement between the Qur’an and the hadith. In reality, Allah ta’ala, by making them devoid of light, wants to give a message to the people of the world that if such obedient and submissive creations can be deprived of light, then human beings, who are entirely engaged in disobedience and rebellion, can also be wiped off the face of existence at any time.
The second lesson is that neither of these two is worthy of being given the status of deity, nor should they be prostrated to; rather, only Allah ta’ala, Who created them, is worthy of prostration.
The statement of Allah ta’ala is:
﴿لَا تَسْجُدُوا لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُنَّ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ﴾
“Do not prostrate to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if it is Him you worship.” (Ha Mim As-Sajdah: 37)
The purpose is that both the sun and the moon are subject to rise and decline; they cannot be gods. Therefore, if you truly wish to worship Allah, then worship Allah directly, Who is their Creator and Owner.
