Hadith 3176

And Allah the Exalted said «وإن يريدوا أن يخدعوك فإن حسبك الله» "And if these disbelievers intend to deceive you (O Prophet!), then Allah is sufficient for you." Until the end of the verse.
Narrated `Auf bin Mali: I went to the Prophet during the Ghazwa of Tabuk while he was sitting in a leather tent. He said, "Count six signs that indicate the approach of the Hour: my death, the conquest of Jerusalem, a plague that will afflict you (and kill you in great numbers) as the plague that afflicts sheep, the increase of wealth to such an extent that even if one is given one hundred Dinars, he will not be satisfied; then an affliction which no Arab house will escape, and then a truce between you and Bani Al-Asfar (i.e. the Byzantines) who will betray you and attack you under eighty flags. Under each flag will be twelve thousand soldiers.

Hadith Commentary:
The first and second signs have already occurred.
The third, it is said, has also occurred, that is, the plague of ‘Amwas which came during the caliphate of Umar (radi Allahu anhu), in which thousands of Muslims died.
The fourth sign has also occurred; Muslims became extremely wealthy through the conquest of Rome and Persia.
The fifth sign, it is said, has occurred as well, by which is meant the tribulation (fitnah) of Banu Umayyah.
The sixth sign will occur near the Day of Judgment.
From this hadith, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has deduced that deceitfulness is the practice of disbelievers, and that it is also a sign of the Day of Judgment that deceit will become widespread.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
The sixth sign has not yet occurred.
There will be a truce between the people of Islam and the Christians of Rome, which will not be upheld; rather, the Christians, with an army of nine hundred and sixty thousand, will attack the Muslims.
At that time, Muslims will suffer great losses.
Ultimately, under the leadership of Imam Mahdi, the Muslims will be granted victory.
2.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has established from this hadith that treachery is the act of disbelievers, and such betrayal will occur near the end of times.
Muslims should avoid this.

Benefits and Issues:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is the last Prophet.
Therefore, his (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) passing is a sign of the Hour.

Bayt al-Maqdis was first conquered during the caliphate of Umar (radi Allahu anhu).
It was reconquered by Salahuddin Ayyubi (rahimahullah).
At the time of the descent of ‘Isa (alayhis salam), there will again be war with the Jews and they will be annihilated, and all Christians will become Muslims.

During the caliphate of Umar (radi Allahu anhu), a plague spread which is known as the Plague of ‘Amwas.
Such incidents have occurred later as well.
It is possible that another epidemic will come near the Hour.

Greed for wealth and ingratitude are widespread in the present era.
Some movements of modern ignorance, for example:
Encouraging the depositing of money in banks to receive interest (riba), insurance which is a combination of interest (riba) and gambling (qimar), many prize schemes which are forms of lottery, i.e., gambling, and the attempt to have fewer children out of fear of increased expenses (family planning)—
these are a few manifestations of this materialistic mentality.

The application of the tribulation (fitnah) entering every home is possible to multiple things.
For example:
The image of a living being, which is religiously forbidden (haram).
Many people keep pictures of their elders, children, or some scholar or spiritual guide in their homes out of fondness or for blessing.
If someone avoids this, then they are certainly present in newspapers and magazines, and then in children’s textbooks.
Due to government regulations, pictures in passports, identity cards, etc., have become a necessity in every home. After this, through television, VCR, cable, and the internet, their harmful effects have further expanded.
Similarly, there is the tribulation of music, which was previously only heard with film songs and required special arrangements to listen to, but then became common through radio, TV, etc.
Now, it is present in almost every home, every shop, bus, car, and taxi; rather, its presence with naats and polytheistic poems has, in the eyes of the public, removed it from the list of sins.
In addition, prejudice and even bloodshed on the basis of homeland, tribe, language, sect, organization, and party is a great tribulation of the modern era.
In financial matters, due to governments patronizing interest (riba), no one is safe from its effects.
There may be other tribulations as well.

By “Romans” are meant the Christian countries of the West.
This sign has not yet appeared; it is possible that, using some decision of the United Nations as a pretext, these non-Muslim countries may attack the Muslims.
And Allah knows best.
