Hadith 3163

Narrated Yahya bin Sa`id: Once the Prophet called the Ansar in order to grant them part of the land of Bahrain. On that they said, "No! By Allah, we will not accept it unless you grant a similar thing to our Quarries brothers as well." He said, "That will be their's if Allah wishes." But when the Ansar persisted in their request, he said, "After me you will see others given preference over you in this respect (in which case) you should be patient till you meet me at the Tank (of Al-Kauthar).

Hadith Commentary:

This heading consists of three parts, and three hadiths have been mentioned, each corresponding in order to a part of the heading.

The first part pertains to the granting of estates, and in this hadith, the granting of estates is also mentioned.
Some estates are declared as permanent property, while others are given for a limited period.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) offered to grant estates to the Ansar, but they did not accept it; rather, they requested that the Muhajirun be included with them.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
Today you are displaying such selflessness and compassion towards them, so maintain this, for in the future these people will overlook you, so be patient.
Do not waste your reward by displaying impatience and greed; thus, it happened that the Ansar were kept away from governmental positions.

Hadith Commentary:

In these hadiths, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) foretold regarding the Ansar that the rulers would give preference to themselves in financial matters and other affairs, and you (the Ansar) would be neglected and not included in governmental matters.
It happened exactly as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) had said.

The Ansar, in this regard, acted with patience and steadfastness, and made themselves deserving of reward from Allah the Exalted.
