Hadith 3154

Narrated Ibn `Umar: In our holy battles, we used to get honey and grapes, as war booty which we would eat and would not store.

Hadith Commentary:
From this hadith, it is derived that there is no harm in using those food and drink items before distribution which would spoil if kept for long. For example, vegetables, fruits, etc.

Hadith Commentary:
There is no harm in consuming those edible and drinkable items which serve as nourishment, such as honey and the like, or those which are at risk of spoiling, such as grapes or vegetables, before their distribution.
For their use, the permission of the ruling Imam is also not necessary.
However, committing treachery with war booty (mal-e-ghanima) is a very grave offense.
On this basis, one should not exceed the limits; for those items whose use is permitted, concession should only be given to that extent.
