Narrated `Amr bin Taghlib: Allah's Apostle gave (gifts) to some people to the exclusion of some others. The latter seemed to be displeased by that. The Prophet said, "I give to some people, lest they should deviate from True Faith or lose patience, while I refer other people to the goodness and contentment which Allah has put in their hearts, and `Amr bin Taghlib is amongst them." `Amr bin Taghlib said, "The statement of Allah's Apostle is dearer to me than red camels." Narrated Al-Hasan: `Amr bin Taghlib told us that Allah's Apostle got some property or some war prisoners and he distributed them in the above way (i.e. giving to some people to the exclusion of others) .

Hadith Commentary:
The correspondence between the hadith and the chapter is that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) distributed the spoils of war (amwal ghaneemat) according to his own discretion, in which the most important Islamic interests were included. He also satisfied those who objected in the best manner.
It is thus established that, on such occasions, the Caliph of Islam is granted certain special authorities; however, it is their duty that no personal corrupt motive is involved, and only the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger and the elevation of Islam are kept in view. The person mentioned in the narration is Amr ibn Taghlib al-Abdi.
He belonged to the tribe of Abdul Qais and was a well-known Ansari Companion (radi Allahu anhu).

Hadith Commentary:
➊
Hazrat Amr ibn Taghlib radi Allahu anhu belonged to the tribe of Abd al-Qays. Since he possessed complete faith, he was pleased with the encouraging statement of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
➋
According to this narration, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam spent the spoils of war (mal-e-ghanīmah) at his own discretion, in which there were significant and important interests. He also satisfied those who objected in a good manner. Undoubtedly, on such occasions, the Caliph of Islam is granted certain special authorities; nevertheless, it is his duty that in such circumstances, only the pleasure of Allah and the elevation of Islam be intended. Personal interests should have no part in this.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
By this heading, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah intends to show that just as Allah Ta’ala is the Creator of mankind, He is also the Creator of their attributes, character, and conduct.
When He is the Creator of their attributes and character, then He alone is also the Creator of their actions and deeds.
Recitation, which is an act of the reciter, is created by Allah Ta’ala, whereas the Mu’tazilah say that man himself is the creator of his own actions.
In this regard, these people become guilty of associating partners with Allah (wahdahu la sharika lahu).
➋
From the presented noble verse, it is also understood that abundance of wealth does not produce generosity in a person’s nature; rather, it increases his miserliness even more.
Allah Ta’ala has also explained the natural way to remove his instability, restlessness, and anxiety. Thus, in the next eight verses, such deeds are mentioned through which his reformation takes place, and tranquility, peace, and composure are produced in the nature of the believers.

Hadith Commentary:
SubhanAllah, in the eyes of the Companions, a single command from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), which indicated his approval, was more beloved than all the wealth and riches of the world. From this hadith, the perfect character of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is established, in that he did not like to displease anyone nor to break anyone’s heart.
He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) delivered such a sermon that those who had not been given (anything) became even happier than those who had received (something) (Wahidi).
Here too, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used the phrase “Amma ba‘d!”
This is precisely the objective of the chapter.

Hadith Commentary:
From this hadith, the exalted character (khuluq azeem) of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) becomes evident: neither did he tolerate anyone’s displeasure, nor did he ever break anyone’s heart. Furthermore, the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) also had heartfelt love and deep attachment to him.
The complete explanation of this hadith will come in the Book of the Obligation of Khums (Kitab Fard al-Khums), insha’Allah.
