Hadith 2950

Hadith Commentary:

On the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not employ tawriyah (dissimulation). Rather, he openly and explicitly announced this battle, because in every respect this confrontation was extremely severe, and the Muslims had to be fully prepared for it.

The purpose of the chapter is that the Imam (leader) is authorized, according to circumstances, to employ tawriyah or not, as he deems appropriate to the situation and context.

Hadith Commentary:

To intend one action but, due to some expediency, to express another action is called tawriyah (dissimulation).
In times of war, this becomes necessary so that the enemy does not become aware and is unable to prepare for confrontation.
However, at the time of the Battle of Tabuk, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not use tawriyah; rather, he openly and clearly announced this battle, because in every respect the confrontation was going to be very severe.
They had to face a powerful government, and the Muslims needed to be fully prepared for this battle.

The purpose is that the Imam (leader) can exercise his authority according to the circumstances.
He may, as appropriate, use tawriyah or inform his army clearly—meaning, he should act according to the situation and context.

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) preferred to travel on Thursdays, but he did not make this a permanent practice; rather, it is established from him that he also traveled on other days of the week, as will be clarified in the forthcoming ahadith.
