Hadith 2943

Narrated Anas: Whenever Allah's Apostle attacked some people, he would never attack them till it was dawn. If he heard the Adhan (i.e. call for prayer) he would delay the fight, and if he did not hear the Adhan, he would attack them immediately after dawn. We reached Khaibar at night.

Hadith Commentary:
This hadith also indicates that, before initiating warfare, every possible opportunity should be sought that might avert the danger of war, because the objective of Islam is by no means war.

Hadith Commentary:

This hadith indicates that before engaging in battle, every possible opportunity should be sought to avert the danger of war, because war and fighting are not among the objectives of Islam.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would wait until morning so that it could be ascertained whether the people of that area were Muslims or not.
Through the call to prayer (adhan) and other Islamic symbols, their condition would become known.

This means that when it is not known about a people whether the invitation to Islam has reached them or not, then one should wait until morning.
If the adhan is heard, then no attack should be made; otherwise, an attack may be carried out.
Regarding the invitation to Islam, the position of the majority (jumhur) is that if the invitation has not reached them, then it is obligatory to invite them to Islam; if it has already reached them, then inviting them anew is recommended (mustahabb).
And Allah knows best.
