Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one narration, it is mentioned that due to lice, they developed itching, so the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) permitted them to wear silk.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Jihad wal-Siyar, Hadith: 2920)
Imam al-Bukhari (rahimahullah) has established a chapter heading for this hadith with these words:
(Bab al-Harir fi al-Harb)
“Silk during war.”
(2)
During war, silk garments were used so that the blow of a sword would not prove fatal. In any case, due to itching or lice, and during war, wearing silk garments is permitted. Similarly, for any illness in which wearing silk brings relief, or to protect oneself from heat or cold, it is permissible to use it, provided that no other cloth is available.

Hadith Commentary: By bringing this hadith, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has indicated towards its other chain of transmission, which he mentions later, that this permission was granted during jihad, and in the narration of Abu Dawud, it is stated that this permission was given during travel.
Now, in the second narration, the reason for the permission is mentioned as lice, while in this narration it is itching.
Both can be reconciled in this way: first, lice must have appeared, and then due to the lice, itching would have developed.
It is said that silk cloth soothes itching and kills lice (Wahidi).

(1) For men as well, the use of silk is permissible in certain situations; for example, if someone has an itch, he may wear silk clothing as a form of treatment.
(2) This blessed hadith also indicates that the pure Shariah is extremely easy, and along with this, it fully takes into account the convenience of those in need and those who are legally responsible (mukallaf).
(3) This incident took place during travel; therefore, some jurists have stipulated the condition of travel in addition to the condition of itching, because at home, other treatments for itching are also possible. However, the preferred opinion is that its use as a treatment is permissible even while residing (not traveling). And Allah knows best.

It is possible that the itching was due to this reason.
