Narrated Anas: I was in the company of Jabir bin `Abdullah on a journey and he used to serve me though he was older than I. Jarir said, "I saw the Ansar doing a thing (i.e. showing great reverence to the Prophet ) for which I have vowed that whenever I meet any of them, I will serve him."

Hadith Commentary:
The matter was that the Ansari had great love for the Noble Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and showed him immense respect.
It is understood from this that serving anyone who loves Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is indeed a great blessing.
Apparently, reconciling this hadith with the chapter heading is difficult. ‘Ayni said that in the narration of Muslim, it is further mentioned that this companionship occurred during a journey, and a journey is general, which also includes the journey of jihad. Thus, it corresponds with the chapter heading.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
The matter was that the Ansar always loved the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) greatly and would serve him in every possible way.
➋
From this, it is understood that if someone loves Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), then serving them is indeed a great blessing.
In Sahih Muslim, there is an additional detail that Anas (radi Allahu anhu) accompanied Jarir (radi Allahu anhu) during a journey, and the journey is general—whether it is for jihad or for something other than jihad.
From this, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has established the virtue of serving others during jihad.
