Explanation & Benefits

Hadith Commentary:

This depends upon the discernment of the Imam of the time, whether, based on the circumstances of war, he deems the participation of women necessary or not.
If a Muslim woman is unable to participate in jihad but is able to perform Hajj, then for her, in this journey, she will receive the same reward as that of jihad.

Hadith Commentary:

The journey of Hajj is in no way less than jihad for women, but even in actual jihad, the participation of women is established. In fact, regarding naval jihad, there is a prophecy of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) for a Muslim woman. In view of this, the absolute mujtahid, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah), has established below a chapter on the participation of women in naval jihad.

Hadith Commentary:
The mentioned title has two meanings:
➊ One is: What is the jihad of women?
➋ The second is: To establish the permissibility of jihad for women.
Both these narrations indicate this, because the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not object to the question of the female questioner.
Therefore, the jihad of women is established by his silence, but this permissibility will be conditional upon the absence of tribulation (fitnah).
If a woman is unable to participate in jihad,
but she only performs Hajj, then in this journey she will be given the reward of jihad, because the journey of Hajj is not less than jihad for women. However, the participation of women in jihad is also established from the ahadith, as Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) will mention under the following title.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Jihad involving combat is not obligatory upon women.

➋ For women, Hajj and Umrah hold as much importance as jihad does for men.

➌ Hajj and Umrah have been described as the jihad of women because, in these acts as well, one endures the hardship of travel for the sake of Allah, spends wealth, and has to bear various kinds of difficulties.

580 Lexical Explanation:
«عَلَي النَّسَاءِ جِهَادٌ» Is jihad obligatory upon women?
In this, the interrogative particle is omitted, and the application of "jihad" to Hajj and Umrah is metaphorical, because in these acts too, one must endure hardship and difficulty similar to jihad. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) responded in a most wise manner.
«وَاَصَلُهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ» Its origin is in the Sahih. Here, "Sahih" refers to Sahih al-Bukhari. This hadith is evidence for the obligation of Umrah. *

Takhrij:
«أخرجه ابن ماجه، المناسك، باب الحج جهاد النساء، حديث:2901، والبخاري، الجهاد، حديث:2875.»©Explanation:
➊ In this hadith, it is mentioned that jihad for women is not fighting in battle; rather, for them, Hajj and Umrah are considered jihad.
➋ In jihad, a person has to endure the hardships of travel, difficulties, and sufferings, and must spend wealth.
➌ In Hajj and Umrah as well, one faces these hardships; therefore, women receive the reward of jihad for performing Hajj and Umrah. On this basis, Hajj and Umrah have been declared as jihad for women. In other words, jihad by the sword is not obligatory upon women; they attain its reward by performing Hajj and Umrah.
