Shaykh Abdul Sattar al-Hammad
Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The purpose of this heading is that those who work for a waqf (endowment), whether they are laborers, supervisors, agents, or other workers, all of their expenses will be covered from the waqf property.
In the first hadith, the term "workers" refers to those responsible for the land of fay’ (spoils of war), meaning the lands of Banu Nadir, Fadak, and Khaybar, whose management was entrusted to certain individuals. Their salaries and expenses were paid from the produce of these lands.
Similarly, the expenses of the noble wives (azwaj mutahharat, radi Allahu anhunna) were also covered from this, because after the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), they were not to marry anyone else. Therefore, their maintenance was provided for, and the chambers (hujurat) were also left for them. Whatever remained beyond this was collected in the category of charity (sadaqah).
(2)
In the narration of Umar (radi Allahu anhu), it is explicitly stated that whoever manages waqf property may take a reasonable compensation for his effort from the waqf property, so that his expenses can be met.
In other words, there is allowance for fulfilling necessities rather than for privileges, luxuries, or comforts.
The best solution for this is to fix a monthly salary for oneself.
And Allah knows best.
