Hadith Commentary:
The purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah in bringing this narration is that when, in the hadith, the punishment for a non-married (ghayr muhsan) person is mentioned as one hundred lashes and exile for one year, and repentance (tawbah) is not mentioned separately, it becomes evident that his being exiled for one year itself constitutes repentance.
After this, his testimony will be accepted.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Committing adultery (zina) also impugns a person's uprightness (‘adalah), due to which he is no longer eligible to bear witness. When the prescribed punishment (hadd) for this sin is carried out upon him, it serves as expiation for his crime, and he once again becomes eligible to bear witness.
(2)
The relevance to the chapter heading is as follows: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) imposed only the prescribed punishment (hadd) upon the adulterer, which was to administer one hundred lashes and exile him from his homeland for one year. Apart from this, there is no separate mention in the hadiths of repentance, etc. It is thus understood that being exiled for one year itself constitutes his repentance. The primary purpose of exile is to sever this person from his environment for a year; after serving the punishment, his testimony will be accepted.
