بَابُ الاِسْتِعَارَةِ لِلْعَرُوسِ عِنْدَ الْبِنَاءِ:Chapter. To borrow something for the bride at the time of her wedding.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ أَيْمَنَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، قَالَ : " دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا وَعَلَيْهَا دِرْعُ قِطْرٍ ثَمَنُ خَمْسَةِ دَرَاهِمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : ارْفَعْ بَصَرَكَ إِلَى جَارِيَتِي انْظُرْ إِلَيْهَا ، فَإِنَّهَا تُزْهَى أَنْ تَلْبَسَهُ فِي الْبَيْتِ ، وَقَدْ كَانَ لِي مِنْهُنَّ دِرْعٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَمَا كَانَتِ امْرَأَةٌ تُقَيَّنُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، إِلَّا أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَيَّ تَسْتَعِيرُهُ " .
Narrated Aiman: I went to `Aisha and she was wearing a coarse dress costing five Dirhams. `Aisha said, "Look up and see my slave-girl who refuses to wear it in the house though during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle I had a similar dress which no woman desiring to appear elegant (before her husband) failed to borrow from me."

Hadith Commentary:
Aisha (radi Allahu anha) wishes to convey that the type of garments which our slave-girls now refuse to wear in our homes, in the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), people used to borrow such garments from us to use at weddings.
From this, the permissibility of borrowing garments is established.

Hadith Commentary:

The purpose here is that borrowing clothing from someone for the first night of marriage is not blameworthy. Even during the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), it was customary to borrow clothing in cases of necessity or emergency.
(2)
This hadith also reveals the humility and modesty of Aisha (radi Allahu anha). Furthermore, in our society, thousands or even hundreds of thousands of rupees are spent on preparing clothing for the first night of marriage. In light of this hadith, such an action is not commendable; rather, for a temporary need, one may borrow from someone. If one does wish to prepare a permanent garment, it should neither be expensive nor excessively elaborate, so that it can be used in the future as well, and not merely remain as an adornment in a chest.
