Hadith 2613

Narrated Ibn `Umar: Once the Prophet went to the house of Fatima but did not enter it. `Ali came and she told him about that. When 'All asked the Prophet about it, he said, "I saw a (multicolored) decorated curtain on her door. I am not interested in worldly things." `Ali went to Fatima and told her about it. Fatima said, "I am ready to dispense with it in the way he suggests." The Prophet ordered her to send it to such-andsuch needy people. "

Hadith Commentary:
Hanging a cloth as a curtain at the door was not impermissible, but to hang a cloth purely for adornment and decoration was not appropriate for the household of Prophethood, because “al-faqru fakhri” (poverty is my pride) was their distinguishing mark.
What the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam preferred for himself, he instructed for Fatimah radi Allahu anha as well, and on one occasion, in the light of the noble verse: “And surely the Hereafter is better for you than the first (life)” (: al-Duha: 4), it was stated that worldly luxury and elevation are not suitable for me and my family; Allah has prepared everything for us in the Hereafter.
Fatimah al-Zahra radi Allahu anha is the dearly beloved daughter of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam; her noble mother is Khadijah al-Kubra radi Allahu anha.
According to one narration, she is the youngest daughter of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
She is the leader of all women in this world and the Hereafter.
In Ramadan of the 2nd year after Hijrah, she was married to Ali radi Allahu anhu, and the wedding took place in Dhu al-Hijjah.
From her womb, Ali radi Allahu anhu had three sons: Hasan, Husayn, and Muhsin radi Allahu anhum, and three daughters: Zaynab, Umm Kulthum, and Ruqayyah.
She passed away in Madinah Tayyibah six months after the Prophet’s demise, at the age of 28.
Ali radi Allahu anhu gave her the ritual bath (ghusl), and Abbas radi Allahu anhu led the funeral prayer.
She was buried at night.
Hasan and Husayn radi Allahu anhuma, as well as a group of other Companions, narrated from her.
Aishah radi Allahu anha said that, apart from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, she had not found anyone more truthful than Fatimah.
She said, when there was some disagreement between the two, “O Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, ask her yourself, for she does not lie.”
Further virtues will be mentioned in their appropriate place.
(radi Allahu anha)
On 4 April 70 AH, this hadith was read with reflection in the Sacred Ka‘bah in Makkah al-Mukarramah, from the text of Sahih al-Bukhari, part ten.
May Allah Most High protect the pen from error, grant the correct understanding of the words of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and enable their correct translation to be written, and may Allah Most High grant understanding and insight in the explanations as well.
Amin, O Lord of the worlds.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
There was nothing inherently wrong with the curtain hung on the door; rather, it was striped and had some decorative designs on it. This was certainly contrary to simplicity and piety, which is why the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not approve of it. He ordered that the curtain be given as a gift to those in need. They could sell it and use it for their own purposes, but the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) disliked it for Sayyidah Fatimah (radi Allahu anha) because he himself and his family preferred simplicity.

(2)
Merely hanging cloth for adornment was not appropriate for the family of Prophethood. He (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
"Allah, the Exalted, has prepared such things for us in the Hereafter."
