Hadith 2610

Narrated Ibn `Umar: That he was in the company of the Prophet on a journey, riding a troublesome camel belonging to `Umar. The camel used to go ahead of the Prophet, so Ibn `Umar's father would say, "O `Abdullah! No one should go ahead of the Prophet." The Prophet said to him, "Sell it to me." `Umar said to the Prophet "It is for you." So, he bought it and said, "O `Abdullah! It is for you, and you can do with it what you like."

Hadith Commentary:
The correspondence is evident in that they did not share in the camel that was with Abdullah. Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, with his far-reaching insight and discernment, has established this matter: that even if there are many people sitting in a gathering, the gift should be given only to the one who is deserving of it.
It was this meticulousness that granted Imam Bukhari rahimahullah such a rank, that reaching the depths of the science of hadith was his unique share, due to which he became renowned as Amir al-Mu’minin fi al-Hadith (the Commander of the Faithful in Hadith).
Now, if anyone harbors jealousy or enmity towards this God-given status of his, or denies it, let them do so.
By the blessing of the Prophetic hadith, Allah Ta’ala granted him everlasting acceptance, which will remain until the Day of Judgment, insha’Allah.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) gifted that camel to Abdullah ibn Umar (radi Allahu anhu), even though there were other companions on the journey as well.
From this hadith, Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has established that those present in a gathering are not included in a gift, no matter how many they may be.
The rightful recipient of the gift is only the person to whom it is presented.

(2)
According to our inclination, when a gift is designated for a specific person, then partnership in it is not permissible.
