Narrated Maimuna, the wife of the Prophet (saws) that she manumitted her slave-girl and the Prophet (saws) said to her, "You would have got more reward if you had given the slave-girl to one of your maternal uncles."

Hadith Commentary:
From this hadith, it is understood that the foremost recipients of gifts are close relatives and family members. Furthermore, if any relative is in need, then giving to them as a gift holds greater virtue than freeing a slave. Accordingly, in the narration of Sunan al-Kubra, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“It would have been better if you had lightened the burden of your brother’s daughter who herds sheep.”
That is, instead of freeing this slave-girl, you should have given her to your brother so that she could serve him.
