بَابُ إِثْمِ مَنْ ظَلَمَ شَيْئًا مِنَ الأَرْضِ:Chapter. The sin of him who usurps the land of others.
Hadith 2453

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَتْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ أُنَاسٍ خُصُومَةٌ ، فَذَكَرَ لِعَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا أَبَا سَلَمَةَ ، اجْتَنِبِ الْأَرْضَ فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ ظَلَمَ قِيدَ شِبْرٍ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ طُوِّقَهُ مِنْ سَبْعِ أَرَضِينَ " .
Narrated Abu Salama: That there was a dispute between him and some people (about a piece of land). When he told `Aisha about it, she said, "O Abu Salama! Avoid taking the land unjustly, for the Prophet said, 'Whoever usurps even one span of the land of somebody, his neck will be encircled with it down the seven earths."

Hadith Commentary:
Since there are seven layers of the earth, therefore, land acquired through oppression will be made into a collar and placed around his neck, extending through all seven layers. The seven layers of the earth are established from the Book and the Sunnah. Whoever denies them is a denier of the Qur’an and Hadith. The details of this are known to Allah.
﴿وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ﴾ ( al-Muddathir: 31)
Imam Shawkani rahimahullah states:
“And in it is that the seven earths are layers like the heavens, and this is apparent from His, the Exalted’s, statement: ‘and from the earth the like thereof’ in opposition to those who say that by ‘seven earths’ is meant seven regions.” ( Nayl)
That is, from this it is established that just as there are seven heavens, there are also seven layers of the earth, as mentioned in the Qur’anic verse ‘and from the earth the like thereof’, meaning the earths are also like those heavens. In this is also a refutation of those who interpret the seven earths as seven regions, which is not correct.
