And Allah the Exalted has said in Surah Ibrahim: "And never think that Allah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. He only delays them for a Day when eyes will stare in horror. They will be racing forward with their heads raised up." «مقنع » and «مقمح» both have the same meaning. Mujahid said that the meaning of «مهطعين» is "those who look fixedly," and it is also said that the meaning of «مهطعين» is "one who runs quickly." Their gaze will not return to them, and their hearts will be void (of sense), so that no intellect will remain. And Allah the Exalted's statement: "O Muhammad! Warn the people of the Day when the punishment will come upon them. Those who did wrong will say, 'Our Lord! Delay us for a short term, we will answer Your call and follow the messengers.' (It will be said to them:) 'Did you not swear before that there would be no end for you? And you dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it had become clear to you how We dealt with them, and We presented to you many examples.' They plotted their plots, but their plots are with Allah, even if their plots were such that mountains could be moved thereby (yet they were fruitless). So never think that Allah will fail in His promise to His messengers. Verily, Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite."
Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Allah's Apostle said, "When the believers pass safely over (the bridge across) Hell, they will be stopped at a bridge in between Hell and Paradise where they will retaliate upon each other for the injustices done among them in the world, and when they get purified of all their sins, they will be admitted into Paradise. By Him in Whose Hands the life of Muhammad is everybody will recognize his dwelling in Paradise better than he recognizes his dwelling in this world."

Hadith Commentary:
By mentioning this chain of narration, the purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah is to establish that Qatadah’s hearing (sama‘) from Abu’l-Mutawakkil is proven.
(O Allah! Grant those who value these pure sayings of Your Noble Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam the highest Paradise, al-Firdaws al-A‘la.
Ameen)

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The injustices mentioned in the hadith refer to those wrongs which will not nullify all of their good deeds, or such injustices whose recompense will be taken from the body, such as if they had slapped one another, then retribution will be taken for that.
(2)
It is also understood from this hadith that there will be two bridges on the Day of Resurrection:
One is the Bridge of Sirat (Pul Sirat) which will be over Hell, and the other is the bridge mentioned in this hadith, which will be between Paradise and Hell.
It is possible that it is a single bridge, with its initial part on the side of Hell and its final part near Paradise.
And Allah knows best.
In any case, what is meant are those people who committed injustices against others in the world.
Such people’s personal sins will be burned and eliminated in the fire of Hell, but for sins related to the rights of others, retribution will be taken.
When those matters are settled, they will be permitted to enter Paradise.
The purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah is that if compensation for injustice and excess is not made in the world, then on the Day of Resurrection it will be made by taking retribution.

Hadith Commentary:
The reason for this is that, in Barzakh, every person is shown his abode morning and evening, as is mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith. Now, what Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak has narrated in his Kitab az-Zuhd—that the angels will show them the paths to Paradise from the right and the left—does not contradict this. This is because recognizing one’s own house does not necessarily mean knowing all the routes of the city, and Paradise is not merely a great city, but rather a vast kingdom. In comparison to it, the entire world holds no significance, as the Noble Qur’an itself states: ﴿Its width is as the heavens and the earth﴾, meaning Paradise is that whose width encompasses the seven heavens and the seven earths. Allah the Blessed and Exalted has spoken the truth.
In the chain of narration of the second hadith in this chapter, Imam Malik rahimahullah is also present. He is a very eminent and highly esteemed Imam. In jurisprudence (fiqh) and hadith, he is known as the Imam of Hijaz. Imam Shafi’i rahimahullah is his student, and Imam Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, and others all consider him their Imam. Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah attended his lessons and listened to hadith from him for a month. Imam Muhammad rahimahullah is a student of Imam Malik rahimahullah in the science of hadith, and Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal rahimahullah is also a student of Imam Malik rahimahullah. Many other great Imams and hadith scholars are also his students in the science of hadith. Such a tremendous honor of being the teacher of the Imams and the instructor of hadith was not attained by any of the four Imams except him. Al-Muwatta of Imam Malik is a famous book of hadith. He was born in 95 AH and lived to the age of eighty-four, passing away in 179 AH. He showed the utmost reverence for the science of hadith. May Allah have vast mercy upon him.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The meaning of being saved from Hell is that the believers will cross the bridge (Sirat) over Hell safely, as is explicitly mentioned in a narration:
“When the believers will cross the bridge (Sirat) placed over Hell in safety.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Mazalim, Hadith: 2440)
(2)
The bridge upon which the believers will be stopped is actually a part of the very same bridge (Sirat) leading to Paradise.
It is also possible that it is a different bridge.
(3)
It should be noted that not all believers will be stopped there; rather, those who will enter Paradise without reckoning, or whose deeds will lead them to Hell, will not be stopped there.
(Fath al-Bari: 11/485)
If anyone has wronged another even to the weight of a mustard seed, he will have to give recompense for it, as is explicitly stated in the Noble Qur’an.
(al-Anbiya: 21/47)
(4)
Hafiz Ibn Hajar rahimahullah says that according to one narration, the angels will show the people of Paradise the way to Paradise from the right and left, whereas in this hadith it is mentioned that they will recognize their own places in Paradise. It is possible that before entering Paradise, the angels will guide them, and after entering Paradise, they will recognize their own places themselves.
It is also possible that, as an expression of glad tidings and honor, the angels will continue to guide them to the paths even after they enter Paradise, because after recognizing their own dwellings, it is not necessary that they know all the paths of Paradise.
Paradise is not only a great city but a vast kingdom; in comparison to it, the entire world holds no significance.
