Narrated `Abdullah bin Ka`b bin Malik Al-Ansari from Ka`b bin Malik: That `Abdullah bin Abi Hadrad Al-Aslami owed him some debt. Ka`b met him and caught hold of him and they started talking and their voices grew loudest. The Prophet passed by them and addressed Ka`b, pointing out to him to reduce the debt to one half. So, Ka`b got one half of the debt and exempted the debtor from the other half.

Hadith Commentary:
From the wording of the hadith "falazimahu" (he clung to him), the chapter heading is derived: that Hazrat Ka'b (radi Allahu anhu) clung to Abdullah (radi Allahu anhu) in order to recover his debt and said that he would not leave him until his debt was repaid. And when the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) saw them and did not prohibit such clinging, the permissibility of clinging in this manner is established from this.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) recommended forgiving half of the debt; from this, it is also proven that if the debtor is in difficulty, the creditor should forgive some portion of the debt. It is also established that interceding for a good deed is permissible.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The word "employment" (mualazimat) used in the title does not mean taking up a job, but rather to pursue someone and to keep watch over them. If you have to take something from someone, you may pursue them and keep them under your supervision. Thus, from this narration it is understood that a debtor can be held accountable. If this act were impermissible, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would have prohibited it. The fact that he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did not object to it is evidence of its permissibility. However, if the debtor is poor and destitute, then leniency should be shown to him. Instead of keeping him under supervision, he should be granted more time, as Allah the Exalted has clearly instructed in the Noble Qur’an regarding this matter.
(2)
It is also understood from this that intercession can be made for a good deed, as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) interceded for the forgiveness of the debt.
